A big event that just happened in the book is that Briarwood, the boys school, flooded and got destroyed so they have to rebuild it which is going to take a couple of years. Since the boys don't have a school they are moving into OCD (Octavian Country Day) the girls school until their school is rebuilt. It is a big change for both schools because they are not used to going to school with each other. I think that there are going to be some big problems for the pretty committee now because the boys might take their alpha status. Everything is now going to change.

If I could I would give advice to Massie the main (well one of the main) characters. I would tell her to just relax and have fun sometimes because she is always so tense and everything has to be perfect and go her way or shes not happy. She should just go with the flow and just deal with whatever happens. She doesn't always have to try to fix it 'cause a lot of the time she cant and when she trys to she just make it worse.

This book makes me wonder about different outcomes that could happen when they solve a problem because they lead you to a bunch of different outcomes untill they tell you the real one. The book always has me thinking and so interested in what is going to happen next. I never want to stop reading.

Weekly Reading Response

NAME: Bailey Baker      DATE: 10/15/10
TITLE: Its Not Easy Being Mean

The author creates suspense in the book because she always chooses a plot in the book and the problem sometimes is not answered until the end or it gets answered in the middle but there are a bunch of other problems that go on. She makes it suspenseful because your always wanting to know what happens next because something might happen unexpectedly and then you want to know whats gonna happen know. The way she writes makes it very interesting and you never want to put down the book. I sometimes finish a book in two days because I am so into it that I don't want to stop reading.

This book/series reminds me of school and girls today because some of the things in the book could happen in real life. Probably not to that extreme but similar things could happen. A lot of the characters situations are easy to understand and relate to. I think that it is easy to relate to because the author is writing in the perspective of teenage girls that have to deal with situations you might be dealing with or some girls have to deal with.

A motto Massie, the main character seems to live by is "always look your best, you'll never know who you will meet." I think that she lives by this because she always has to look really pretty and her outfits have to be perfect wherever she is. For example when she was going to play soccer she made this outfit that wasn't a soccer outfit at all like instead of shorts she had a skirt on and everything. Also everything that she wears has to be designer. She wont even wear anything that is last season. It all has to be new and in style. So I think that that motto represents her best because she always had to look perfect.

Weekly Reading Response

NAME: Bailey Baker         DATE: 10/6/10
TITLE: The Pretty Committee Strikes Back
TIME:              HOURS: 3
AUTHOR: Lisi Harrison     PAGES: 120-265
TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK: 145 pages START FINISH

Something that surprized me in this book was how the girls (Massie, Alica, Dylan, Kristin, and Claire) got expelled from OCD (ocatavian contry day). I expected them to get like detention for a while and theyd have to call there parents and everything. I didn't think it would go as far as expoltion.

The thing that bothered me in this book is how the author made them get expelled in the end. It seemed like a downer way to end it. I want to read more but it doesn't seem like the next book would be that interesting because they got expelled so what can they really do. All of the drama happened at school or school related so it seems like the next book will be boring and all the other characters that are in the book wont be spozen of again because the girls aren't aloud on OCD property anymore.

I think I will read another book by this author because the book I just read is part of a series and I want to read every book in the series. What makes me want to read more of her books is how well she puts herself in the shoes of a teenager. Most of the things she talks about can actually happen so its easy to relate to. Every time you read one of her books you cant wait to read the next one because you want to know what happens next. Its really interesting and makes me want to keep reading. I usually cant put down the book.

Mice and Men: Post 5

I think that the rabbits symbolize comfort towards Lennie and prove that he can be responsible for something thats his own. In a way they bring out Lennies personality because they are something Lennie loves and are really into. He cant stop talking and thinking about them once someone mentions them or the farm there going to live on.

Crooks. I think that Crooks represents the idea of being and feeling alone. I think this because he is black and black people were treated very differently back then like he has to have his own room because nobody else wanted to share a room with a black person. Which probably makes him feel alone and unwanted at times because of his race.

I think that Lennie acted very surprized when he relized that he had just killed Curly's wife. He also was worried that George wont let him tend the rabbits anymore because he had done another bad thing. I think he would act surprize because he dosen't understand how it happen because he dosen't realize how dangerouse he can be by just hold on to someone or grabbing them. He didn't mean to hurt her he just dosen't realize his strenght yet. I think that there are a couple of different things that could happen to Lennie now because he killed someone. He could be put in jail for murdering, him and George might have to go hide in the brush and get out of town, or he could lie about what happen to Curly's wife like he had no idea what happend. There are many different possible outcomes that could happen but it wont hide the fact Lennie killed somebody. It wasn't just a rat or a puppy this time it was a human.

I think that Curly's wife is another way to represent lonliness because nobody would talk to her. They didn't talk to her because they didn't want any trouble. Curly didn't like her talking to anybody either because he was afraid that she would leave him for another guy. It made her feel really lonley because she would only be aloud to talk to Curly and he was kinda boring to talk to. She always new she could have had a better life and wished she had taken those opportunities.

Journal Entry-Lennie's Perspective

Dear Diary,
Today me and George were talking to Candy for a while. Hes gonna now move in with us when we get are own farm. Hes already got 300 bucks saved up and he can use that to help pay for the house. I think our dream is actually gonna come true now and George said I can still tend the Rabbits if I'm good. Candy said that he'll do all the cookin, maybe some cleanin, and he'll feed the chickens. We just gotta hang out here for a while until we have enough money to do so.

I got in a fight with Curly a little while after. I don't know what happened I was just thinking about the idea of me, George, and now Candy livin of the fatta the land and the Rabbits I would tend to and how I would bring my new puppy to. But the next thing I know he was yelling at me and then grabbed me and started hittin me. I didn't do anything though I swear. Then George kept on tellin me to get him, fight back, and dont let him do that to you, but I was scared I didn't know what to do. After a couple of hits and me doin nothing I started hittin back. I grab Curleys hand that was clamped together in a fist and I wouldn't let go I just held onto it and squeezed it harder and harder. Everybody was yellin but George didn't say nothin. George then finally told me that was enough and to let go of him but I didn't I just kept holing on. George kept sayin it, it then got to me so I let go. Slim came over and took a look at Curley's hand, it was hurt bad. Slim told everybody that he needed to be taken to the hospital immediately and his whole hand might be broken. But I told George that I didn't mean to, I didn't want to hurt him. I honestly didn't. George seemed to understand but I was scared.

Well I better get back to work before Slim sees me not workin. Maybe I'll write some more a little bit later tonight before dinner.

Of Mice and Men: Post #2

George treats Lennie kinda harsh at times because George always has to take care of Lennie and Lennie doesn't really understand a lot of things. Lennie is kinda like having a little kid around all the time and it frustrates George because he constantly has to take care of him.  George often thinks about how much better his life would be without Lennie around. But i think he really does care about Lennie and doesn't want him to go anywhere he just lets his anger get the best of him and takes it out on Lennie because it's hard to deal with someone like that all of the time.

George and Lennie's dream is to have a little house with a couple of acres. An there they will have a cow, pigs, a vegetable patch, a rabbit hutch, and chickens. I think that it is realistic but I don't know if they could do it because you don't make that much money as a migrate worker so they couldn't afford it. But if they work really hard and don't give up they might be able to accomplish it one day.

George says that migrant workers are the loneliest people in the world because they don't have families or belong any place. They just travel from farm to farm working. They don't have anything to look forward to. But him and Lenny have a future. They have each other to talk to and they look after each other. George and Lennie have a dream to keep them going so one day that dream will come true.

Of Mice and Men Pre-Reading

We have friends to talk to, hang out with, have fun together, laugh, connect, share, socialize and so much more. If we didn't have friends we would just be board a lot and have no one to really talk to. I think without friends are lives would be kinda dull and boring because with friends you can do so much and most importantly you have someone to share it with and talk about together.

A good friend is always there for you and helps you with the things you need. A good friend is someone who listens and cares about your feelings. A good friend does things with you even though they don't want to. A good friend is someone who goes out of there way for just like you would do for them. A good friend cares about you and loves you.

A dream of mine is to be a famous dancer or singer. I think it would be supper fun to be dancing or singing on stage all the time as a professional. The hard thing about it is working your way up to that point because there is a long process and hard work in between it all. You also have to have amazing talent and it can be very time consuming and a lot of money.

My Favorite Book I've Read Over The Summer.

My favorite book that I read this summer was The Clique. The genre for this book is fantasy but i think it could be realistic fiction cause it could actually happen. The Clique is about a girl who moves from Orlando, Flordia to Westchester New York and tries to be friends with a group of girls otherwise known as a popular clique. I would recommend this book to teen girls because they could probably relate to the situations that happen to the girls in the book.
